Hey! What is this all about anyway??
It is all about sharing what is cookin’ in my life through words and pictures of ingredients in my food and life. You will see recipes, gardening tips, lifestyle/organizing tips, etc. Anything I run into that makes my life better (or worse!) I want to share!
Who is behind CUL?
This girl, Courtney, and I am so happy you decided to drop in and check out the Cookin’ up Life blog.
This is a section of the blog that I have been putting off! Why? Because I kept thinking “oh that section will take no time, I will do it later.” YEAH RIGHT… have you ever stopped and thought about what you would tell someone if they asked you “Who are you?” Well here is what I would say:
I am Courtney… I love to pick lemons while in California haha kidding 🙂
I like to: smile, talk, cook, love God, hang out with an awesome group of kids at church, read, drink coffee, travel, my date nights with David (anything really with him… I kinda like him a lot), visit the farm back home, and take pictures.
I am a weather nerd. If you have any weather questions, I’d love to answer them or hunt for an answer if I do not know it.
I graduated from the University of Alabama in May 2010 with a Bachelors in Arts and Communication (concentration in broadcasting and minored in Geography and American Studies).
Currently, I am in grad school at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL in the Geography department. I have lived in Tuscaloosa for 6 years now and I love it! Tuscaloosa is an awesome town that is now in the process of rebuilding after the devastating tornado on April 27, 2011. I do tornado research; my thesis is centered around hazards and the society (specifically 4-27-11). I like researching weather events at all 3 stages: before, during, and after. Also how we react in severe situations when we are at home, work, or in a vehicle. My goal is to help in the warning process (before), work with officials pre and post disaster (during and after), and educate people on how to be weather aware (before, during, and after). With keeping in mind all 3 locations that we could be during events!
Now you are wondering… What am I going to do with my life?
Well I am currently in the writing process of my thesis… all coursework has been completed! I just have to write THE thesis now. It is a very challenging assignment that takes up a lot of time and it humbles you daily! I just finished up teaching labs, so focus has slowly came back to writing, thankfully 🙂
Curious about my topic? Here is a little hint… it is entitled “Impact of Social Media on Perception and Decision Making During the Tuscaloosa, AL April 27, 20011 Tornado.” After completion (August 2012), I hope to start a doctoral program! I have applied at Kent State University in Ohio (accepted!!) and Jacksonville State in Alabama (waiting patiently on this one). I am looking to end up in the Emergency Management field in some capacity.
David and I (DC… David and Courtney) enjoy CrossFit (he is a trainer at a gym here) and we love our friends there. We also enjoy yoga, biking, tennis, running, pretty much anything outside!
David and I were part of a CSA with Snowsbend Farm in Tuscaloosa last year. We got a basket of fresh and organic produce weekly starting in April and ending around Thanksgiving. It was fabulous, but with our plans not set in stone for our duration in Tuscaloosa we are just hitting up the Farmer’s Market (Snowsbend sells there too) this year! Food is something we both are passionate about AND we are very blessed to be able to have this in common. We also have the DC (David and Courtney) Garden… Plot #2! Round #2 this year!! Boy did we learn a lot from Round #1!
Speaking of growing… David and I are growing our relationship… as in we are getting married! August 11, 2012 is the big day 🙂 I will have a wedding page soon– if you would like to read our story and how he proposed, here are the links: March 14, I said YES, the Proposal, Wedding Update. So happy to be a bride-to-be!
Before I jumped to WordPress I was at Blogger! Want to read some older posts? Click here to check out my old stomping grounds at cntcookinuplife.blogspot.com
My favorite Bible verse:
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
