And by North Alabama… I mean The South and anywhere I have traveled (even Austin, TX!). I first heard about their bakery last September through Googling “paleo-friendly Alabama bakeries.” I like to find small businesses who are trying to get gluten-free and paleo-friendly items out there. And a couple of weeks ago, I met my sister and mom in Huntsville and knew I had to stop in and visit Mason Dixon Bakery!
Even if you enjoy baking, it is nice to know you have an option to, well, not bake it yourself. You know that feeling, it might be an anniversary or birthday and you might just want to treat yourself (or someone else) by letting professionals do the hard-work for you 🙂 And in fact, you can order anything from your wedding cake, baby’s first birthday cake, or a 26th birthday cake (thanks Mom and Dad!) directly from Mason Dixon Bakery. Order online and have it shipped to your home or go straight to the bakery’s home in Huntsville, Alabama.

Here is a little about them directly from their site:
WE ARE ALABAMA’S FIRST DEDICATED GLUTEN FREE BAKERY. LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED, WE RESIDE IN HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA AND STRIVE TO BRING FLAIR, ELEGANCE, AND DECADENCE TO GLUTEN FREE DESSERTS. OUR GOAL IS TO ELIMINATE THE “FLAVORLESS CARDBOARD” VIEW OF ALLERGEN FRIENDLY FOODS. WE CHALLENGE YOU TO COMPARE OUR GLUTEN FREE DESSERTS TO ANY GLUTEN FILLED SWEETS!
So what did I try?? Everything from chips, granola, and, of course, cake 🙂
Paleo Apple Orchard Bar: I am thinking these would be seasonally made, with whatever fruit is in season. This was a perfect twist (and million times better) than a LaraBar. It was so fresh and filled with cinnamon and apple.
Paleo Tortilla Chips: Corn is a “no no” in the paleo world, even though higher quality non-GMO products seem to be a popular splurge for David and myself. Lately, those corn chip splurges have left me feeling pretty rough. When the sweet people at Mason Dixon Bakery handed me a bag of their paleo chips to try, I was so excited. I knew I would enjoy them in nacho form that night 🙂 Due to my excitement, I forgot to snap a picture, but no fear, here is a link to see the tortilla chips 🙂
Paleo Cupcake: Holy moly. This was fantastic! Chocolate ganache frosting with a fluffy vanilla cake base. And to go along with this… I turn 26 tomorrow and my parents special ordered me a paleo birthday cake! I received it a little early, so I could celebrate all week long 😉
Yes, this is paleo. I have tried baking a birthday cake before for David… didn’t turn out so pretty 😉 This is where the professionals come in and boy did they leave my jaw on the floor! Look at the piping on that, it was gorgeous. I admired it on a few different cake stands, under the cake dome, and finally that night decided to cut into it. I will enjoy a piece with a candle tomorrow 🙂
So if you are in the Huntsville, AL area, go check Mason Dixon Bakery out! If you are not, go check their website out and order you something 🙂 They have an extended gluten-free menu with pops of paleo items! You can also keep up with them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (@masondixonbakery).
Thanks to Mason Dixon Bakery for talking with me about their paleo options and sending me home with the paleo tortilla chips, apple orchard bar, and paleo granola. The Cookin’ Up Life team gave everything 2 thumbs/paws up!
